Building a

In December of 1999 I began the construction of a kayak kit from Chesapeake Light Craft called the Northbay. The Northbay is a model based on the traditional Greenland design of sea kayaks. It is 18'6" long and 22" wide. The construction method is called Stitch and Glue. The boat is built from panels of Okoume mahogany plywood that are wired (or stitched) together and then fiberglassed. This web site chronicles the process and will hopefully provide some useful information for others thinking about building their own kayak. Click on the links below to continue.
